Best Aldi Trip Ever In Walt Disney World?

Good morning Disney for Seniors. We arrived back in Florida on Monday and had a wonderful, senior type go with the flow day on Thursday with friends. So thought I’d share it with you our best Aldi Trip ever!

Slept a bit later today and made it through until 5.45am. Usual morning routine of having a coffee and answering my emails. The plan was to do this and then head to Aldi for some shopping. Before we set off, our friends Martin and Julie messaged to say they were heading to Celebration for a walk and were we free to join them. Easy answer, of course we were. Consequently Aldi got subbed for a meet up with friends.

Starbucks for Coffee … or Aldi?

We met up at the fountains and hugged like we’d not seen each other in years. In fact it had been less than 3 months. Martin and Julie own a villa over here and like us, spend extended periods in Florida.

First up we headed to Starbucks for 4 coffees to go so we could walk, talk and drink our lattes. We made our way round the main lake, across the boardwalk and along the next two lakes. Disney did an amazing job designing the town of Celebration and we appreciated the beautiful vistas as we walked. We had a great natter and got some steps in before making it back to the fountains. We agreed that we were all hungry enough for some lunch and decided on the Downtown Diner.

We were seated quickly, and then not so quickly decided what to order. The menu is pretty extensive with lots to choose from so it took us a while to make our minds up. Julie and I both went for a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup. I had fries on the side with mine and Julie had some toast. Martin went for a sandwich and fries.

Simon had the Philly cheese Dutch puppy (formerly called a Dutch baby). It is a bit like a large Yorkshire pudding. Once ordered, the food came out quickly and as always, was really good.

We sat in our booth and chatted for a while after lunch. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy so there was no need to hurry as they didn’t need our table.

Disney’s Winter Summerland Mini Golf

After letting our lunch settle, we all felt flexible enough for a game of mini golf. So made our way up World Drive to Disney’s Winter Summerland. Last time we all went together, we played the winter side, so opted for Summer this time.

Lots of laughter as we were playing, as well as a bit of dancing (mainly Julie) to the Beach Boy tunes they play there. We can get a round of golf free each day before 4pm with our annual passes. This perk is also included with 14 day UK tickets, so make the most of it if you have tickets that include it.

Anyway, back to the mini golf, long story short, I won. Can’t believe it as everyone had a good game and it was very close.

As we made our way back to the car park, we discussed what to do next as it was only 4.30pm. The day was still young and we were on a roll. Me in particular having won the mini golf 🏆😂 As we were near Coronado Springs, we thought we’d check to see if we could park and pop to the Dahlia Lounge. Disney is pretty quiet this week, so there were no issues.

The lounge opens at 5pm, so as we were a tad early, we went for a walk round the hotel lake. When we got to the pool area, Julie and I sat in the bar area chatting whilst the boys played table tennis. By the time we’d finished there it was getting dark and lovely to see the resort lit up at night. It’s really pretty and well worth a nighttime visit.

Gran Destino Tower

We made our way past the Three Bridges restaurant on the lake and continued to the Gran Destino Tower where we got the lift to the 16th floor. Although it was a cool evening, we sat on the rooftop terrace with lovely night time views of some of the Disney landmarks. Tower of Terror, Everest and Star Wars land, to name a few.

We all opted for hot drinks and spent the next two hours enjoying the atmosphere and each others company. I loved my hot chocolate and when I complimented it to our server, she told me if was a Joffrey’s one. Think I might need a trip to Disney Springs to pick up some for home 🤔

Reluctantly we called it a day shortly after 8.30pm as I’m still adjusting to the time difference and was flagging. We walked back to the car park together, confirmed the date and time for our next meet up and said our goodbyes.

Best Aldi Trip Ever in Walt Disney World!

I’m really not sure how an Aldi trip turned into a walk that then turned into, lunch, mini golf and a visit to a rooftop bar, but what a great way to spend 9 hours with friends.

If you ever have the luxury of being able to go with the flow in Florida, even for a day, I’d highly recommend it. Like the title of the blog says…best Aldi trip ever 😂
